Life before ETC
I worked for another local firm of tax advisers for three and a half years and before that I did consultancy work for other firms of accountants. At the start of the millennium, I had an interesting seven years setting up and running a private office for a ‘rich list’ family.
Why a career in tax?
The first job offer I had back in the day was working for the Inland Revenue in Manchester and my tax career carried on from there.
The best and worst bits
Talking to clients, understanding their needs and coming up with solutions to problems is very rewarding. Clients are often very apprehensive when they get letters from HMRC which they don’t really understand and it’s good to help put their minds at rest.
The worst bits are when a client asks for advice after they have structured a transaction – it is often then too late to rectify matters and the client may end up paying more tax than they needed to.
Three words to describe ETC Tax
Innovative, knowledgeable, pragmatic.
