  • Andy Wood

    Founder & Director

Andy is one of ETC’s directors, having founded the business in 2013.

“Andy is an experienced tax adviser and a Barrister”

Andy is an experienced tax adviser and a Barrister after being called to the bar in October 2019. Andy’s clients extend across all types of sectors, he has acted for large property entrepreneurs, international banks, tech companies and scrap dealers. Where there is an international angle to a client’s affairs, he is like a pig in muck!

    Life before ETC

Andy trained with Ernst & Young in London before moving to the North West in 2005. Prior to starting ETC, he worked with Grant Thornton in Manchester. Andy qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 2003 and, shortly after, became a member of STEP.

    Why a career in tax?

I found that as soon as I could write I was helping my parents with their tax returns. Then, like many others, I graduated to selling sweets and dispensing tax advice in the school playground.

I also persuaded my Dad to stencil the full words of Lord Clyde’s famous speech in Ayrshire Pullman Motor Services and Ritchie v IRC [1929] on my bedroom wall – right next to my poster of David Gower.

Of course, the above is all lies. Like all tax advisers, a career in tax sort of just happened…

    My best (and worst) bits

Best bits – Enjoy solving problems, good at solving problems, introverted (but still like meeting people).

Worst bits – Admin-aphobic, leaves Babybel wrappers around the house (according to my youngest daughter), artistic skills criminally under-used.

    Three words to describe ETC

Punches. Above. Its. Weight (apologies – that’s four)

    Alternative career choice

I would take any job working at Disney Pixar.
