Why a career in Tax?

Having completed a tax specialist BA Hons degree, I felt the natural next step was to begin my career in taxation.

With my only experience of tax deriving from academia, I was sceptical as to whether this was the correct choice for me – this scepticism was quickly set aside.

The inherent complexities of tax and their application to the ‘real-world’ keeps me on my toes and mentally stimulated. It is also rewarding to know that my advice helps business and their owners to meet their personal and commercial objectives.

Whilst I am certainly early on in my career, I can definitely see myself in tax for the foreseeable future (if not permanently!)

My best (and worst) bits

I am known for turning a simple question into full blown discussion or debate – usually tax related – with my colleagues. This is because I enjoy and can spend endless time exploring ideas– particularly if it involves an interesting or nuanced anomaly in the tax treatment of transactions!

Whilst this inevitably translates into better advice for our clients, I’ll often find myself needing to make up for the “lost” time!
