I recently attended the meeting of the northern region of the Employee Ownership Association yesterday which was very kindly hosted by John Lewis in Leeds. It proved to be a great day and illustrated the power of this form of business structure.
Particular thanks to Caitlin who took us on a tour of the store and for her generous, open and honest comments and answers to all our questions. She also shared with us what it means to be a partner in John Lewis.
For me this provided a real insight in to employee ownership in action. It does make a difference to workers when they understand the values of their business and genuinely feel a part of it – they take ownership, with the rewards but also responsibilities which that brings. This in turn impacts on the customer experience and delivers value to all stakeholders.
Thank you also to Mark for his presentation on the governance and democracy of the organisation.
Rest assured, Enterprise Tax will continue to promote employee ownership to businesses to which this model of ownership may be appropriate.
