For a little while now, the North-West of England has been becoming a bit of a honeypot for SMEs. This is confirmed by new research from Santander which states that the total number of small businesses on Merseyside has increased by 6.7%.
The wider picture in North West is a healthy one with the research stating that the North West currently provides a home to 215,780 SMEs. Greater Manchester, which has the most SMEs, has 78,665 such businesses with Lancashire playing host to 38,345.
However, the growth in Merseyside has surpassed the North-West average for new businesses over the past 12 months. Merseyside now hosts 30,645 such businesses, the 6.7% growth rate trumping the regional average of 4.3 per cent.
