ETC are continuing to prioritise and support ‘Mental Health’ awareness in the workplace which we feel is imperative to help look after our employee’s wellness and wellbeing. Many companies put in place support and resource for ‘physical’ first aid for their employees such as having an appointed trained first aider and first aid box available. However, it is still rare that companies provide the same level of support and resource for mental health of their people.
ETC have always been aware of the importance of mental health and this is why we are moving forward with our focus in this area by embedding ‘Mental Health First Aid’ training in our organisation. We want to encourage our people to talk more freely about mental health, to promote early intervention which enables recovery, and to seek to reduce the stigma and create a positive culture around mental health.
This is why Tara Soobhug, our HR Manager is currently attending training to ensure we have a qualified Mental Health First Aider in the workplace, who will be the primary point of contact for any of our employees who might be experiencing a mental health issue or emotional distress.
In addition to the EAP that we recently put in place, as a Mental Health First Aider, Tara will be able to spot signs of mental ill health, and be available to our employees, for an initial conversation and to help support individuals to get appropriate help in a crisis.
