No one can deny that the current global pandemic has made people ‘wake up and smell the coffee’ when it comes to flexible working. Here at ETC Tax we are just surprised it has taken a pandemic for companies to realise this, as it is something that we have been practising since ETC Tax was founded. Nothing new here!!!
It appears that many businesses are now joining us in considering introducing permanent flexible working and home working options when things return to some form of normality. Clearly, they, like us have recognised the benefits this can bring in allowing employees a better work-life balance following the pandemic.
Angela Wood, MD at ETC Tax commented “We are pleased to see that many more employers and even big firms like PWC are now turning to our way of thinking in terms of what it means to be a supportive employer. Flexible working has been and will always remain core to our people strategy. We operate job shares, have a number of permanent home workers and offer flexi time and we have been doing all of these things for a number of years. We think it makes a real difference to how our team feel about their roles and working for ETC”.
Recognising the mutual benefits of having such initiatives in place, ETC Tax were early adopters of home working as we have always allowed our employees to spend up to 40% of their working week working from home. We also introduced a flexi-time policy which allows our team to start later or finish earlier, as long as they work their contracted hours and are available during core hours of 10am-4:30pm.
‘My understanding is that ETC Tax wants to be a forward thinking and progressive workplace. Benefits are beginning to become a ‘thing’ – for example, homeworking and flexible working.’

The policies we have adopted have allowed us to better support our employees and have proved to have a positive effect on their wellbeing and motivation. We feel like we have much happier and healthier employees as a result.
If you don’t believe us why not see for yourself. Below, Sarah, our Market Co-ordinator talks openly and honestly about ETC’s flexible approach to creating a supportive work-life balance.
“For me working here has restored my faith that you can work but have the flexibility to be there for your family and not miss out on class assemblies and parents’ evenings which I see a lot with other parents. The job will always be delivered on time and to the best of my ability, but this is helped significantly by a good working relationship, understanding of the outside factors and the encouragement of a work life balance.”
Pamela, our Finance Co-ordinator, also mentions just how much she values the work life balance that ETC Tax provide.
“As a working mum of 3 young kids, work/life balance is really important to me, ETC genuinely understand this and have always been supportive in this regard.“
