As a company ETC Tax have always been keen to support local charities, especially those with young people as their focus. In the past, we have donated food to the local food bank, as well as toys for Mission Christmas.
Members of the team have also organised their own events for local charities, including charity bonfire nights, sponsored races and cake sales.
However, just over a year ago, we decided to focus the firm’s on one main charity, so votes were cast, and Home-Start Warrington was chosen by the team.
For those who have not heard of Home-Start, it is worth highlighting some of the incredible work they do,
Home-Start volunteers help families with young children deal with the challenges they face in day to day life. They support parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence, and build better lives for their children. They work to help vulnerable families break the cycle they have found themselves in and educate children to avoid the paths that can lead to unemployment, crime, drug/alcohol abuse and homelessness. The families needing support can be isolated, suffering from mental health issues or post-natal depression, single parents, victims of domestic violence and alcohol/drug users, struggling to cope with a disabled partner or child or even struggling with the bereavement of a family member.
The team at ETC Tax have been working hard over the last year or so with raffles, cakes sales, and clothing donations to support Home-Start. However, lockdown hit many charities hard, and following conversations with Home-Start we quickly recognised that the urgent need now was for laptops for those families without access to technology for home schooling.
With the assistance of our IT support company, Everything Tech, (who ensured the laptops were wiped clean, and good enough to be used as intended), we were able to provide Home-Start with refurbished laptops in December, and a further in January.
Home-Start have been able to find good homes for all the laptops we donated, and we hope that they will give people a much needed boost with home schooling, online courses, job applications and the like.
If your company has a few old laptops in the cupboard which you are no longer using, then perhaps you could also consider donating them to a charity like Home-Start. It really will make a huge difference.
